The church is looking AMAZING! :)

On Sunday, after an inspiring Lovin' Life Ministries Service, a worker-bee crew helped out with finishing touches on the paint job (things like door frames, window frames, spots on the walls, etc.). Thanks to Brianna, Marie, Cory and myself for helping out! :)

Also, thanks to all you other cool cats who stayed after lunch to help out with sealing grout, restoring cabinets, cleaning and moving stuff. You guys are the best!

Sunday evening we had a Halloween party for our youth. Here are pictures from throughout the day:

A thousand words, but briefly:
Thanks to our morning & daytime crew (dad/Rick and myself) for doing first coat on ceiling and walls as well as taping the trim, picking up supplies, doing the detail work, & all of the other things that got done yesterday.

Thanks to our evening crew (James, Marie, and myself) for doing second coats on the walls and ceilings and for doing clean up as well.

Perhaps we were all exhausted by the end of the day but it's definitely been worth it. And it's still getting better. Can you believe it?? :)

Holy Guacamole. Scott and his crew are doing an AMAZING job tiling the church! The whole thing is looking so nice. It's so exciting to see all of the dedication, effort, and hard work going into the church. Huge thanks to everyone who has gone over there and volunteered hours of your best work:) How could this not turn out beautifully?

While we're on a very brief break from painting-- here are 3 things to remember if you're anxious about the end result:

1. The look we're going for is professional & modern theater.     We're aspiring to be Lovin' Life Ministries quality (excellent)!

2. The interior design team is at your service, however we have to take things one step at a time and keep everyone's wants in mind. Please realize we've been working hard with what little time we have available to accomplish our tasks; be kind when offering concerns and suggestions.

3. The proverbs: "Patience is a virtue" and "Good things come to those who wait".
These proverbs have lasted so long for a reason. It's going to be worth waiting for :)

If you'd like some inspiration, I took the liberty of finding neat-o pictures on the internet:

All of these pictures were from a quick Google search on "modern theater"! There is a plethora of images available online--feel free to do your own search and send in your favorite pictures to the design team (llm.local.nm@gmail.com; "Theater inspiration" in the subject line please!) and hopefully we can use them in our quest to decorate the church!

We'll be painting this week, let me know when you can help. Thanks!

Ever wonder what 3,000 pounds of tile looks like?

We picked up half of the tile yesterday afternoon... turns out approximately 700 sq. feet of tile = 3,000 pounds (or 1.5 tons)!

Thanks to the muscle-men (& women!) who did the work of getting it into the church and clearing the floors that are being tiled as I type this (Rick, James, Nate, & myself)!
We'll be picking up the second half tomorrow.

Painting Party TONIGHT!
5:00 PM
If anyone is available to help out tonight, it would be great to see you at the church. We'll be painting the main hall--ceiling and trim. If there's time we can start on the walls as well.

These colors are gorgeous. From morning to night it's like you're walking into a different version of the same beautiful building:) Not only is it refreshing to walk into a beautifully painted building, but it is also amazing how the colors change in different lighting. Thanks everyone for your hard work!

Update on the tile!

Many of you may know that there was a mix-up with the tile; we found the original tile (that won all of the votes in the meeting after church) and are going with that one! Pic below :)

You can't beat this tile. It was the original one that I had matched all of the professional palettes of paint with. It's a gorgeous color, made of the most durable tile materials (porcelain), easy to clean, and the least expensive porcelain tile in all of Albuquerque tile stores at only $1.09/sq. foot.

We're getting further and further and I can't wait to see the amazing outcome! Our church is going to be so beautiful :)

Another HUGE THANK YOU to all that came and helped out this evening (James, Liana, Sachiko, Mariana & Marie and myself:)).

We made a lot of progress today! Finished the entry and stairwell as well as the lobby and most of upstairs. We painted the accent wall, doorframes, and doors and made sure that all of the Butter Rum had 2 coats of paint.Tomorrow I'll paint the first coat of the bathroom and hallway, and hopefully we can get a move-on with the main hall on Sunday!

We also picked out the tile since the original tile we chose was out of stock. Wish I got a better picture of it, but this is the best I've got:

♥See you all soon♥

Ok, ok. For real this time :)

Sooo judging from the lack of response to my previous message/post no one else thought my little joke was very funny.

That's ok, I can congratulate myself just fine.

Elyse, you cunning and clever lady of wit! How could you be so cruel and tease everyone with a not-yet-existent picture of the new paint at the church?!

Well, it was just a joke:) and a very funny one at that! Hahahaha, good one! But the best part is I really am going to post a picture. But first we must give our thank you's!!  First of all, I want to thank the lovely ladies who came and helped out last night and set a sensational foundation layer of paint -- Stephanie, Brianna, Laura, Amelia and myself -- thanks!

And secondly thanks to those who helped out tonight and basically finished the entryway and lobby as well as the upstairs portion-- Sachiko, Marie, Kasia, Chris, Nick, and myself :) We did a bang up job!!

Also, before the pic, news on tomorrow's painting party! Yes, you read that right!

Wanna see the new layer of paint at the church?

It's pretty spectacular!

Come by tomorrow night (Thursday) at 5 PM to get a good first hand look!  :D
Heck, bring your paintin' clothes and a good attitude and stay a while. We've got plenty of paint rollers to go around :)

Just a reminder: Painting Party tomorrow night 5:00 pm at the church!

We got the paint this morning.. there's a lot of it and it's ready to go!

Don't forget to wear painting clothes and bring extra rollers/trays/paintbrushes/dropcloth or whatever you can bring.

We'll probably have to do a little bit of taping, but really the vast majority of the work will be actual painting. Hope to see you there!

...Don't mind if I do! (Say it again)

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR ALL OF THE HARD WORK TODAY! I'd shout it from the mountaintop if I were on one:) This is going to be such a fun process. I can't even wait for all of the fun to be had.  And I know it's going to turn out beautifully.

Thanks to everyone for moving the huge sink out of the big hall, for moving the furniture in the conference room aside so that we could move even more stuff in there. Thanks for moving the sink and the toilet (and taking it in stride when toilet water--or at least, hopefully it was water--dripped on your feet. Thanks to our manly men who sorted through the wood in the back for stuff we could use again, and to those who did the sweeping and cleaning up. And thanks to all for anything else I may have missed. But thanks especially to all of you for making it fun :)

So! Painting party #2: Wednesday night at 5:00 pm. We will be painting, so bring your painting clothes! Also, if you have extra paintbrushes or rollers laying around your house, please feel free to bring them! I would recommend writing your name on them if you want to bring them back home. :)

Also, painting party #3 is also tentatively scheduled for Thursday evening at 5:00 pm for those of you who can't make the Wednesday night and would like to. I'm sure there will be plenty of painting to go around!

Can't wait!

:D

Thursday, September 22, 2011

We all know how long it has taken to get even this far in the church's renovation process. I believe it started circa 2005.

We've primed and painted, demolished and constructed, scraped the floors and installed new doors. Ready for more? It's just gotten exciting.

Tile installation starts next week; before that happens we need to do some serious painting. Colors are all picked out and today I measured wall dimensions in all directions to give us an idea on how much paint we're going to need to buy.

Yeah, it took me a while. But we're just about there. I put the dimensions and formulas in an excel sheet and it looks like it is going to take 7.5 gallons of Behr Butter Rum (for most of the walls), 1 gallon of Behr Firecracker (for 2 accent walls), and a little over 4 gallons of Behr Lightweight Beige (for ceiling and molding) to get this thing done (check my math here).

So! Who wants to have a painting party?!?! Get psyched up, because it's gonna happen cap'n. This Sunday after service and lunch, put on your paint clothes and get ready to get your painting groove on. We'll keep going until we pass out...or until its done, whichever comes first.

Need more inspiration? Check out this infomercial that I made just for the un-inspired.

The video is also good if you just want to get an idea of what the post-paint-and-tile building is going to look like. Of course, paint colors and dimensions are not exact in the video.

See you Sunday :)
